I’d like to tell you about my English studies. I’ll start with the role of English as number one language of international communication, then I’ll pass on to my own experience of learning it.

Today it is quite evident that everyone should know at least one foreign language. English has become the language of the planet, the first truly global language. Three quarters of the world’s mail and its telexes and telegrams are in English. More than half of the world’s periodicals and eighty per cent of the information in the world computers are also in English. English is the main language of business. It is the language of commerce, technology, sport, pop music.

Learning foreign languages stimulates mental capabilities, broaden your horizons.

Besides, knowing foreign languages has a practical value. It makes it easier to choose a profession and provides job promotion. Nowadays the knowledge of English is considered a necessary feature of a good employee.

English is useful when you travel. If you know English you can communicate with people in any country as more than 750 million people all over the world use it and half of those speak it as a mother tongue.

It gives you an opportunity to keep up with the world standards through reading articles, journals and books in the original.

. When you learn a foreign language, you understand your own language better because you compare the two languages.

Learning a foreign language is not an easy thing. It’s along and slow process, that takes a lot of time and efforts.

We began to study English in the first form. We started with the ABC, transcription and sounds. Then we learnt some English words, conversational phrases and dialogues by heart, read and translated easy texts. From lesson to lesson we have been improving our knowledge, learning more and more new words, grammar structures and put them into practice of speaking. Our English classes are   informative, useful and enjoyable. Our teacher encourages our interest in the subject. We learn a lot about the English-speaking countries, besides our teacher always thinks of something interesting for us to do in class. We play different roles, recite poems, and sing different English and American songs. We learn to imagine things, make up stories, prepare projects, write compositions and make reports on different interesting topic read books and discuss their contents in English, learn to communicate with one another making useful statements in real life situations. We listen to recordings and learn to understand native speakers. Our teacher sometimes gives us tests in English grammar or vocabulary. We cope with them successfully and are proud of it.

We enjoy our English classes and prepare carefully for them. One should say that English is not an easy language to learn. There is a big problem of spelling, a large number of exceptions to any rule. This language is very idiomatic and the prepositions are terrible. English is one of those languages, which may seem easy in the beginning, but then the bridge between basic knowledge and mastery takes along time to cross. But if you cross this bridge it will give you great satisfaction.
